TJ Thiara had it all in the palm of her hand. Working for the multi-national Toshiba Corporation, she reported to the number-two executive in the entire company. She was highly respected and well liked, in charge of overseeing the benefits programs and pensions of all US employees.

Defining Moment
Then she did something that would speak volumes about the type of person she is. She resigned. TJ turned away from all her hard work climbing to the top of the corporate ladder in a male-dominated environment. Well, truth be told, she tried to resign. TJ was relocating to the Sacramento area with her husband and family to pursue a new personal challenge. The top brass refused to lose that much talent and expertise, so they talked her into telecommuting between her new home and corporate offices in Irvine, CA, and New York City.

Seeking a New Challenge
You see, TJ had “mastered” her role and responsibilities at Toshiba. She was highly successful but was no longer highly challenged. And that, in a nutshell, is the defining character trait of this dynamic businesswoman. For TJ, life is a journey filled with constant learning, it’s a continual challenge she relishes rising up to meet. TJ basically lives to learn. And when she no longer found a challenge at Toshiba, she decided to move on.

Blossoming Talent
Born in Punjab, India, TJ was already fluent in Punjabi and Hindi when her family moved to England when she was four. At age 15, her family relocated to Texas, where she’ll tell you her life really started. She evolved from a shy, quiet person into a blossoming and outgoing personality. “Basically, I was learning to live,” says TJ. In college, she not only graduated with a MBA, she became a Board Member of the Student Government Association as well as getting involved in many student activities.

A Rough Road at Times
For TJ, life’s journey wasn’t always rosy. Life threw hard challenges her way, including losing her mother and husband within a two-year span. Throughout these challenging times, TJ persevered, raising her two sons and trying to be the strong foundation for her family. Hurdles and obstacles—as well as the opportunities—are chances to learn and grow for this unique individual. TJ eventually re-married, and her husband, Karan, his daughter, Grace, and TJ’s two sons, Amrit and Kern, are a tight-knit family and enjoy life in Elk Grove, CA. TJ enjoys yoga, going to the gym and traveling. She lists England, Italy, India and Spain as favorite destinations.

Finding Her Life’s Calling
Where all of TJ’s life lessons, her corporate experience, her friendly personality and her zest for life come together is when she goes to work helping her real estate clients with one of life’s biggest investments. TJ feels she’s found her life’s calling in a career that allows her to put all her knowledge to work helping people during such a wonderfully emotional time.
